Scope Statement

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: Since the medical device industry has become so prevalent in the Twin Cities area, the Institute of Technology Career Service (ITCS) is seeking hiring trend information (level of education required) from the Medical Device companies that would hire certain degree candidates in the areas of Biomedical, and Mechanical Engineering. ITCS will ultimately be able to provide current students with information, based on company size, regarding their chances of being hired in the medical device industry.

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS:

The goal of the project is to conduct a survey that will gather information regarding the future hiring trends of Medical Device Companies. The survey will be sent to approximately 100 companies, and will determine which candidates (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral) are most attractive to different sized Medical Device Companies in the next two years, five years, ten years, and fifteen years. Our goal is to achieve at least a 30% response rate and to achieve acceptance of the survey results by Sharon B. Kurtt (Director of IT Career Services). The results will be organized in a database and well documented for future student reference.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES:

PROJECT::

• Tabulated results of survey organized by major, level of education and size of company.


• Additional survey documentation and final project report stating how the survey was conducted, what companies were involved, and number involved.

• Project notebook (Final report, WBS, Gantt chart, charter, scope statement, etc.)


• Final Presentation

PROJECT SECCESS CRITERIA:

In order for this project to be a success, the survey response rate must be at least 30%. In addition, the survey results should be both approved by ITCS and made available to all interested students. All deliverables should be of high quality, should be completed with total group participation, and should be completed on time.
